Abby De Shazo

Associate Research Director, Strategic Consulting

Abby came to Galileo with a passion for problem-solving and has 6+ years of experience in qualitative research and strategic consulting in the healthcare and life science space, and ongoing specialization specifically in Oncologic therapeutic areas. 

She began her career as a researcher at UCLA, where she worked on analyzing behavior trends and their relation to patients’ long-term health outcomes, in collaboration with a professor of Public Health & Policy, she co-authored several grant proposals and publications aiming to integrate emotional support training into nursing staff curricula across California. She then worked as a research associate at a healthcare-based UX strategy firm and later a quant-qual life sciences consulting firm, before coming to Galileo. 

Abby maintains a multidisciplinary approach when understanding the world around her, which is particularly valuable when exploring complex healthcare dynamics. This approach was inspired by her undergraduate philosophy dissertation on how schemas impact biases and contribute to the U.S.’s systemic marginalization within healthcare; which, then carried over seamlessly into her contributions at UCLA, where she explored how emotional connection can lead to better health outcomes for patients. 

Abby has a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and a minor in Neuroscience from Claremont McKenna College. Her Philosophy major includes emphases in epistemology and the ethics of palliative & oncology care.
